A Welcome, an Introduction, and a Promise
In high school and college, I was a fine arts major. I learned all the artist disciplines. A side blessing during my college freshmen year, I picked up the love and skill of writing poetry, thanks to two diverse poets: Michael McClure and Rod McKuen. At the end of my sophomore year, I took a summer job at a local amusement park, which launched my 45-year career of managing amusement parks. All the while I continued with my poetry, but work filled the time over art. In 2005, my family urged me to pick up my brushes and return to art. Since that time, I have recaptured art’s disciplines and added a few more. I hope you will enjoy the results. I pride myself in my use of color.
While we are spending time together, I promise I’ll share the best work I can and offer up the inside stories to how the art and poetry was developed. On a rotating basis, I will cover little titbits and secrets from art and poetry experiences.
Ours will be a continuing journey and not a one-time visit. Rod McKuen and I often joked that if one looked up the word ‘prolific’ in the dictionary, the reader would see Rod’s face, with Allen close behind, peeking over Rod’s shoulder.
Our art tip for today is that an artist/poet/writer must know exactly when to stop - and not muddy up the work already completed.
