Foreword

I first met Allen through the poetry world of Poets’ Espresso Review. As an editor, I would sift through countless submissions and yet each time I came across Allen’s poems, I was immediately stopped and would slowly reread his words, astonished at how I wondered if it was possible that the poem was one from my life and that somehow he had the magic of imagination to capture love in a pen of words that could have been dreams caught up in clouds that he was given the privilege of reading. It has been my honor to have been invited to be part of this beautiful journey that reflects how Allen sees the color of love and life.

One of the most difficult emotions to write about is love. Allen Field Weitzel’s words seep into each poem like a sieve dropping words that capture love, spinning them tenderly while placing each perfectly on the page. There will be no doubt that those who read his poetry will be led to travel back to those days that wove love into their memories, and they will swear that he must have somehow found a way to have stolen a glance into their hearts. As in the poem Not Wise #3, it leaves the reader reliving the memory of a love imprinted so deeply that they know that this poem must have been written about that long ago cherished moment.

With just a handful of lines, Allen’s words depict a talent he has perfected that touches familiar emotions found in the friendships experienced in life. His words weave the fabric of our human experience and the passion of intimate relationships. The vibrant colors of Allen’s art add to the pulse of his poetry. The Earth Speaks as if she has likely been screaming as of late through spiraled colors while the storms of fire and flood try to warn us to take notice of what needs to be tended to more carefully. Blue Cactus #70/Friendship Defined where light hues of blue come alive and the variations of depth are created by colors that capture and hold the words of unconditional friendship dipped from the palette of Allen’s unique style where the art of color and words blend to take us on a journey through each page of Allen’s Flash Dream.
